Artist Talk and Opening Reception: February 13, 4-6 PM
In a manipulated series of monoprints – stitched, painted, stained – Sandra Mayo’s Histories of Consequence (2016-2020) tangles with a global dynamic of geopolitical events. Mayo adopts conceptual strategies like mapping and coding to distill and then visually elaborate difficult events, dominantly human tragedies, that have profound and lasting impacts on individuals, families, and societies over multiple generations.
Sandra Mayo is an Argentinian artist and educator who lives in Lexington, Massachusetts. Enabled by her training in education (Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Boston University) while utilizing printmaking and mixed-media work as her main language, her art aims to provoke profound feelings and intellectual bonds between the viewers and historical and current sociopolitical events. Her work has been shown throughout New England. It has also appeared in various publications and been acquired by private and corporate collections in Argentina, France, Germany, Israel, and the US.
