Lexington Monroe Center for the Arts Exhibit
Munroe Center for the Arts, located at 1403 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington, is presenting “Undaunted Mothers: Stories of Tragedy, Resiliency and Hope” through Nov. 15. This show features the work of mixed-media artists Sandra Mayo and Kathryn Graven.
Mayo focuses on Sara and Ruth, two women who fled the Holocaust and then experienced further losses in the Argentinian Dirty War. She uses the symbology of genograms to capture hereditary patterns and events such as births, deaths and immigration.
Graven’s work features a contrast to the “unbearable sorrows” the two women endured. Throughout their ordeals, Ruth and Sara say they turned to nature for strength and encouragement.
Through this visual juxtaposition, the artists explore ways to depict “resiliency and hope.”
An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19, and is open to the public.
